What is the importance of under body protection for Indian cars? Which cars have and which don't?

I recently read a blog on maruti baleno 2015 model. It says that new baleno does not have under body protection.

I wanted to know how important is it for a car to have under body protection considering Indian road conditions. can this be a criteria for car selection?
